# eth_estimateGas

**Network:** Sonic · Mainnet · Chain ID `146` (`0x92`)

**Counts as 1 request.** See [Request Counting](https://blockreq.com/docs/pricing/request-counting/index.md).

Generates and returns an estimate of how much gas is necessary to allow the transaction to complete. The transaction will not be added to the blockchain.

## Parameters

1. `Object` — Transaction call object (same as `eth_call`):

   | to | DATA | No | Recipient address |
   | gas | QUANTITY | No | Gas limit |
   | gasPrice | QUANTITY | No | Gas price |

   | data | DATA | No | Call data |

2. `QUANTITY|TAG` — (Optional) Block number, or `"latest"`.

## Returns

`QUANTITY` — The estimated amount of gas.
